TRENTON, NJ (July 31, 2015) – PNC Foundation recently awarded Millhill Early Education Program with a $6,000 grant through their Grow Up Great initiative. Both PNC and Millhill are committed to high-quality early education experiences that prepare children for school.
“The grant we received from PNC Foundation will definitely help with materials and programming for our Early Education and Camp RISE program where we recently introduced STEM,” says MaryEllen Allocca, Director of Education at Millhill Child & Family Development.
The Grow Up Great program is dedicated to helping prepare America’s youngest children for great things in school life by partnering with nonprofit organizations. PNC employees spent over 100 “Grants for Great Hours” of volunteer service by reading, playing, and creating interactive projects with Millhill’s students. One project in particular aligned with one of the Pre-K classrooms’ butterfly life cycle study.
The Millhill Early Education Program was one of the first, and is one of the few, child development centers in the Trenton area that has earned accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Children who attend the Millhill Preschool Program perform better on standardized testing through the fourth grade.
Camp RISE Millhill’s summer reading day camp aims to help reduce summer learning loss. 100% of the children, who attend the Millhill Literacy Camp maintain or improve their reading level while children traditionally lose one to three reading levels over the summer months.
