Community Foundation of New Jersey and Horizon Foundation, Inc. Support Millhill Trenton PEERS
Trenton, NJ – The Community Foundation of New Jersey and the Horizon Foundation have awarded Millhill Child & Family Development with $10,000 each in support of the Trenton PEERS Empowerment and Education Program.
“With the generous support of our partners, our PEERS will be able to continue the charge of reaching and educating the lives of Trenton area youth” explains Andre Monday, PEERS Coordinator.
Millhill’s Trenton PEERS reach thousands of at-risk Trenton youth each year with information about making responsible choices through dozens of workshops and presentations. In a city struggling with poverty, crime, homelessness, teen pregnancies and other challenges, the Trenton PEERS program provides an outlet to express ideas and understanding of issues facing teens.
The platform has helped PEERS build confidence, discipline and determination throughout their own lives. In a city where 48% of youth graduate from High School it is notable that all PEERS graduate from High School on time and go on to higher education programs.
“Being with the Trenton PEERS since ninth grade has changed my outlook on life and those around me,” explains Ashley Yanes.
The Community Foundation of NJ has been a trusted partner in the state, working with families, businesses, nonprofits and foundations to help build more vibrant communities across New Jersey.
Horizon Foundation was recently honored at Millhill’s MISSION POSSIBLE event as the philanthropic honoree and is a longtime supporter of Millhill Trenton PEERS. The foundation believes that thoughtful, creative and sustained education will significantly influence the lives of children and the communities in which they live.
